I often like to remind myself of the
incredibly dynamic investment that has been made for us by Christ. Not only has
his birth, death and resurrection given us the ability to come again to the
Father, but he has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to ensure we have an
ever-present guide.
The early church experienced an
incredible outpouring of power for the miraculous. People came to a saving
understanding of Christ’s coming, and many were miraculously healed. A new
community of believers began to meet together to learn, fellowship, and share
and grow in their newfound faith. Luke described the early church by saying, “Everyone was filled with awe, and many
wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles” (Acts 2:43). The
Holy Spirit continues to fill believers with the same gifts, power and ability
to see miracles of salvation, healing and renewal!
The Book of Acts becomes a message
to every generation with the design and result of the resurrection of Jesus. The
Book of Acts became a message to every generation for the purpose and result of
the resurrection of Jesus. The church was birthed and changed the known world
within a few short decades.
In
Acts 3: 1-8, ‘we have read the story of a man
who is dramatically healed after spending his life as a cripple. Think of the
tragedy of that, never being able to stand and walk, to run and play around
like the other boys. Now he is a grown man and everyday friends must carry him
to the Temple so he may beg for a living as people pass by.
We can only speculate about the
effect this must have had on his heart. He could easily have been bitter. There
had never been a day in his life when he had not been a burden to somebody. He
could not walk; he could not work. All he could do was sit there and beg, hoping
people would have pity on him showing him some compassion. Then he meets two
spirit filled Jesus believing, faith people. Peter & John, on their way to
the Temple, offer him a new life through the name of Jesus Christ and the lame
man walks for the first time in his life!
Open your bible
and follow this account. I see at least five
things that a spirit-filled person has the opportunity to impart into their
community:
- 1. The
Spirit Filled Person Imparts Expectancy: Acts 3:3-5
- 2. The Spirit Filled
Person Imparts Healing: Acts 3:6-7
-
3. The
Spirit Filled Person Imparts Joy: Acts 3:8
-
4. The Spirit Filled
Person Imparts Wonder: Acts 3:9-10
-
5. The Spirit-Filled Person Imparts a
Witness: Acts 3:1-10
If you have accepted Christ and
allowed Him to be the Lord of your life, His gift to you is the Holy Spirit.
Your life is now filled with all of the power and potential to see the
miraculous happen in the lives of those around you. The gift you have been
given can be imparted to others. The Apostles saw this happen with the healed
man/the formerly crippled man.
Think about it: That same Spirit
resides within you.
