People
communicate in three essential ways, i.e., through their words, gestures, and
their spirit. Here I will discuss our spirit. This is in reality is an
unappreciated, but critical area of our lives that we are all responsible for
cultivating.
Have you ever known someone who
has a spirit of excellence (a distinguished spirit)? When they walk into a
room, people turn and say, “Oh wow!” They are like a pillar of our society; prominent,
respected and perceived from a long way off. An Old Testament character who was
someone like was that Daniel. The Bible says,
“Daniel is a man with an
excellent (extraordinary) spirit” (Daniel 5:12)
On this matter, Pastor Wayne
Cordeiro has said,
“Everyone has one spirit. Some
people have a bad spirit, a prideful sprit, a selfish spirit, a self-promoting
spirit, or an arrogant spirit, while others may have a humble spirit or an
obedient spirit. Our spirit will come out in everything that we do.”[1]
For instance, you may meet a person
who is average in appearance, but when you talk to them, you soon discover that
their spirit is so beautiful and embracing they are just striking! In contrast,
you meet a spectacular looking person who curses and promotes himself or
herself so is ugly in spirit. In fact, the Bible says,
“Clothe yourself with beauty from
within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious in
the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4)
The kind
of spirit you have will produce fruit that will reflect your attitude, be
expressed in your disposition, and be seen in your moods. The right kind of
spirit will give you the courage to overcome. The wrong kind of spirit will
cause you to implode, and surrender things that you should not have
surrendered. So, choosing to work on the spiritual side of your life guarantees
benefits in the way you communicate, the deepening of your character and the posture
of your presence.
