"...an angel of the Lord appeared to him [Joseph] in a
dream" (Matt 1:20) "...And [the wise men] being warned in a dream not
to return to Herod (Matt 2:12) "...Now when they had departed, behold, an
angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream" (Matt 2:13) "...when
Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in
Egypt" ( Matt 2:19) "...being warned in a dream he [Joseph] withdrew
to the district of Galilee" (Matt 2:22).
A great deal of dreaming was going on during the Advent of
Christ! Significant dreams that altered the plans of kings, protected the unborn
and early years of the Saviour, fulfilled prophecy, influenced geographical
decisions, and even occurred during times in the wilderness. It would appear
that within the first moments of the coming of Christ, dreams played a
significant part in the establishment of His kingdom on earth.
Dreams seem to have been lost to the church and claimed by
the new age movements as a phenomena owned by mystics and psychics. Dreams can
obviously be incredibly subjective, but the type of encounter the scripture
recalls leaves us in no doubt that heaven interacted with humanity in very
specific ways. Dreams and visions of Jesus are occurring all over the world
within the Muslim faith, with reports of people coming to Christ in large
numbers. It seems to start with a significant dream. An encounter with Jesus.
Jesus wants to encounter your life today. If he needs to do
it through a dream, a vision, an inspired idea or an anointed piece of music,
let Him do it. We are in unique days. Significant encounters are required for these
significant times.
