The
historical scope of Daniel’s supernatural gifts used in his administration or
ministry ranged from Nebuchadnezzar in 605BC, to King Cyrus in 539BC (Dan 1:21
cf. 10:1). Daniel’s captivity would be for 70 years. This truly reveals
Daniel’s endurance under God’s hand. Daniel and his three friends were guided
by the unseen hand of God. He gave them supernatural knowledge and wisdom; and
helped Daniel to understand various visions and dreams (Dan 1:17). Nebuchadnezzar requested these four to be examined as to
their aptitude, knowledge and wisdom; they were ten times better than their
colleagues (Dan 1:20). Daniel recorded that God had given him the ability to be
discerning and give divine insight in situations and the explanation of visions
and dreams (Dan 2:27-30).
So, can these supernatural gifts be used by you today? The
nature of God remains constant; He was the supernatural God in Daniel’s day,
and He is still the supernatural today. Another thing that stands out is the
willingness of the four to serve and glorify their God even in hard situations.
Remember, the primary purpose of these passages is not to teach us how to act,
but rather to point us to the supernatural God. He has given you supernatural
gifts to use today. So, it is important to remember that as you relate to
the world around you, try to understand the relationship between faith and
culture; God is in control. Just as Daniel and his friends needed to come to
this point in their lives, so do we all.
