In the previous blog it was mentioned
that God is working all around us. Therefore, will we join Him in
what He is doing? Do you realise that we have been hand-picked by God to be His architects of culture;
where we are living, working and playing? As Christ-followers we have the Holy
Spirit enabling us to be His change
agents within the spaces where we have been placed to do good or
God works.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has
created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us
long ago” (Eph 2:10 NLT).
In his book Loving Monday, John
Beckett suggests,
“…the worldview depicted by the Bible holds that all things
are good when in harmony with God’s design, or evil when in conflict.”[1]
In light this, here are some helpful
principles from God in
the Marketplace, by Henry and Rickard Blackaby:[2]
a.
Remember that whatever we are doing we
are to live for Jesus.
b.
Do not be a whinger, a critic or
complainer.
c.
Follow the example of Jesus Christ and be
humble.
d.
We need to watch what we say and think
before speaking.
e.
Keep learning, as smart people realise
how much that they do not know, keep a teachable spirit (attitude).
f.
As His ambassadors guard our integrity.
g.
Work hard, we are not paid by our
employer to spend our day working out ways to shortcut the process, be lazy or preach the gospel.
h.
Seek good biblical guidance in life, as
it is invaluable.
i.
Can the Lord trust us with His wealth,
will we honour the Him with it?
j.
Show mercy to those around you; remember
that we are where we are because He showed us mercy.
k.
Control your anger, as fury can blind
you to what is important.
l. Do
not fear people, not even your boss, but reverence the Lord.
Here is a closing thought to carry to
work, the sports or social club, gym or even the shopping centre:
“We have too often reduced the glory of
the gospel to bumper stickers, condemning slogans on T-shirts, and awkward
quotes on church billboards. We have unthoughtfully pushed verses or tracts on
those who have needed our time, love and attention more than a quick overview
of our beliefs. And we have demanded that people clean up their lives before we
introduce them to the boundless love of Jesus.”[3]
