A Beautiful Angel or a Hideous Demon by Ps Michael Podhaczky

The author, George Crane said that “The tongue can be a beautiful angel or a hideous demon.”[1] That is to say; the tongue can either be used to spread healing and life, or hatred and pain intending to damage those around us. As Proverbs says,

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Prov 18:21 ESV).

I actually like the way that the Message translation puts it, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

In fact Proverbs has a number of passages about using the tongue, reflecting this paradox. For example; healing and life: Prov 12:8-9; 13:3; 15:4; 21:23; death and hate: Prov 10:31-32; 12:19; 13:3; 15:4. Thank God for such kingdom wisdom, yet if we don’t put it in to practice and zone out, then it might as well be blah, blah, blah.

So, we need to intentionally ask the Holy Spirit to be Lord of our tongue. We can use our God given tongue to glorify Him, or misuse it. How have we used it today as a beautiful angel of mercy or as a hideous life taking demon? The choice is ours. So, when we lay our head on our pillow and look over the day what will we see, a beautiful angel or a hideous demon?
