As Christ-followers we are called
to have an effect in the world in which we live. Have you ever stopped and
thought about why you are living, working or studying where you are? Well, right where we are, we have the opportunity to make His name holy, see
His kingdom come and His will be done as it is in heaven (Matt 6:9-10).
Firstly, we need to realise that we
have been placed where we are by our
Heavenly Father. It is no mistake that we are there and in contact with the
people around us. The Lord of the harvest (Matt 9:38), has deployed us to this
place to make His name holy, see His kingdom come in one heart at a time and His will be done.
He is already at work around us, and we
just need to realise this truth. This
shift in perspective from waiting to be sent, to realising that we have already
been sent, is important.
Secondly, understand that we have
all we need to do what needs to be done
in that place. Certainly, we may need to discover what we are to do and be
developed to better do what He needs to be
done, but remember, we already have His
Holy Spirit and His Word. The Holy Spirit lives within His home the church of
which we are a part, and through Him, we are
equipped with His fruit and gifts. He knows exactly
what we need for each occurrence. For example, if we need to pour out His love
towards someone He has the fruit of love, or if we need His wisdom in a
situation, He has the gift of wisdom.
So, why not stop right now and
ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what He is already doing? Ask Him what is your role in what He is doing? Ask Him to
open your eyes and ears to those around you to hear their heart’s cry? He is
already at work around you, but have you joined Him in what He is doing? If
not, why not intentionally ask Him to reveal why you have been deployed to these people and this place?
Pause in His presence for a
moment and think this over…
