Have you ever had a conversation with someone and they want
to change something in their life, but are unable to do so? It is as if they
are staying loyal to an old version of themselves. They want to live as a new person
but are unable to do away with the old them. You know, we can all be like that
sometimes in various areas of our lives. What about you, ask yourself, “Am I staying
loyal to an old version of myself?” If so, why are you doing so?
We all need to be continually
growing in various ways, perceptions and character etc. Paul said to the local
church in Corinth that,
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Cor 5:17 ESV).
If we are a Christ-follower, then according to Paul, we are a new
Creation and the old me has passed away or perished. This is who we are; we need
to see and acknowledge this truth of our current condition.
So, what we need is to
have our eyes open to this powerful truth as the Holy Spirit illuminates His
Word to us. Then we need to live from this perspective. This may seen too simple, but if we can grasp this, it can be life-transforming. Let the Spirit
of God bring this truth home to our lives that as Paul has declared, “if anyone
is in Christ, they are a new creation.”
Pause
in His presence for a moment and think this over…
