Minister in the Opposite Spirit by Ps Michael Podhaczky

At the moment, it would appear that the world has forgotten its manners and seems to be living for self. We read online and see on the news of hoarding of food and other goods, of fights in supermarkets and shopping centres. Have we all gone mad, or is it merely the survival of the fittest? Some would even say that it is just humanity without knowing Christ. The problem with that is that some Christians have been some of the worst.

However we want to understand this moment in time, we have to make a choice. That is, do we do the same, or do we be countercultural. Namely, we have a fantastic opportunity to minister in the opposite spirit. What this means is to minister (serve) from the perspective of love, humility, and mercy. We can live in these times as a giving, generous person and not as a stingy hoarder.

Jesus made an amazing statement as recorded in the gospel of Matthew in 6:19-21,

19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (NLT).

That is, see things from God’s perspective. We all have opportunities to be generous and thereby, storing up opportunities of love, humility and mercy in the power and strength of His Spirit. This is one way that God is glorified.

What are the opportunities right now in your home, your street at work, in the supermarket to minister in the opposite spirit and be generous? Are you able to pay it forward? Or share your toilet paper, meat, vegetables, or rice etc. Could you help with an elderly person next door to get some groceries, mow their lawn etc.? The following clip may inspire you to minister in the opposite spirit and be a giver at this time and not a hoarder:

Pause in His presence for a moment and think this over…
