We all live as part of a community, in our street, at work, school or university, a sports or interest community. We all love the benefits of community, don’t we? However, what about our responsibilities? Do we see our communities as places of entitlement, in that way we place expectations on others to do something for us/me? We may even have a blind spot when it comes to our entitlements within our communities. How can we deal with those blind spots? What responsibility do we have to deal with these blind spots?
It might be an honest conversation with someone that you trust regarding any blind spots. Our even ask the Holy Spirit audited us on our blind spots. I would how we would stack up with responsibilities like reaching out to our community around us? It gives us some food for thought and prayer as we move forward. Conversations regarding our motives, attitudes, biases etc., which affect our behaviour. So, what are we able to do as we embrace our responsibilities as a community of Christ-followers, within the community at large?
When it comes to our idea of an idea of community, there is no one method or formula to fit all. However, there is one thing that is a constant it does not matter what community we are a part of as we reach out. On this matter, James in his letter to the church said that,
“If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law,
according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself,’ you
are doing well” (Jas 2:8 NASB)
Consequently, the best way we can reach out to our community is to love them. To love them just like the
Lord unconditionally loves us.
Pause in His presence for a moment and think this over…
