As we continue the topic of ‘Walking with the Lord,’ we will look at an important factor that can often be overlooked in our day and age. We will look at three qualities, which the Lord requires of His own. That is,
“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he
requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly
with your God” (Mic 6:8 NLT).
The first one is ‘to do what is right.’
To do what is right can also mean ‘to do justice,’ or ‘to carry out (or act with) justice, or even advocate on behalf of others.’ What does this mean to do right? The word used here by Micah is used over 400 times within the Hebrew Bible (the OT). Jeremiah recorded that Lord saying,
“But those who wish to boast should boast
in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD
who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness
to the earth and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD,
have spoken!” (Jer 9:24 NLT)
There is a lot of talk these days about justice and injustice. If the
Lord brings justice to the earth, and we are to do what is right, what does
that look like to us? We as Christ-followers should be people who act fairly
towards others, treating them with dignity and helping and serving them,
especially the defenceless and weak.
The following clip may help to put some things into context for us on the
matter of justice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A14THPoc4-4&vl=nl (15th February 2021).
Pause in
His presence for a moment and think this over…
