If I were to tell you that your work,
uni, school, the sports club, gym and even the shopping centre are holy places,
what would you say? Do you know what makes them holy? It is God’s presence; God
is in that place. Since God is in you, you carry His holy presence into that
place. So these places are not merely secular places;
they are actually holy places. This biblical worldview can affect everything
that you do.
Moses
appeared to have this worldview; he came to the reality that God was already
working around him. God showed Moses His plan for Israel right in the middle of
his workday, right on the workshop floor.
“God called out to him (Moses) and
said, ‘Do not come any closer,’ the LORD warned. ‘Take off your sandals (work
boots), for you are standing on holy ground (the workshop floor)’” (Exodus 3:5
NLT).
When was the last time that God turned
up at your work, home, sports or social club, gym, the shopping centre, or
wherever you find yourself in the day to day? He wants to get your attention
and let you know that He is already working around you. He wants to challenge
you as to the holiness of the place where you are doing life.
God
told Moses what He had already been doing and said that He was inviting Moses
to be a part of what He was doing (Exodus 3:7-8,10). But unlike Moses you have
the presence of God the Holy Spirit with you continuously. He is living within
you; you are a part of His church. As a result, wherever you are becomes a holy
place.
“Don’t you realise that all of you
together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” (1
Corinthians 3:16 NLT).
There is not a time in your life as a
Christ-follower that His Holy Spirit is not in you. Have you noticed God at
work around you? If so, what does it look like; what does it mean for you?
