The Power Of A Blessing (Part 1) by Ps Jim Jung

Recently I had the privilege to sit with the leadership team of our partners in a South East Asian nation. Each day we spent the entire time simply seeking God for their country and for the blessing of God to fall upon her people.

Stories were told of amazing miracles occurring in various parts of the nation. Recently a lady fell from her canoe into the river and was dragged to the bottom. Her body was lodged there for over an hour before someone was able to reach her and get her body to shore. A very new believer laid his hand on her forehead and prayed that she would come back to life. He felt the Lord tell him to lay his hand on her stomach and push. He did it and she vomited out all the water and sat up! She was seen by a doctor and was declared perfectly well.

An older man had been unable to rise from his bed for the past 8 years. His wife had recently become a Christian but no-one in the village would listen to her. One of our pastors arrived in the village and she asked him to pray that the Lord would heal her unbelieving husband because if the village saw him walking they would all believe. The pastor prayed, the man reluctantly sat up and didn't feel confident enough to stand up. Others wanted the help him but the pastor told them to leave him alone because Jesus wanted to be the one who got him up. He asked the man to stand and walk. He eventually did and the village were amazed. Many have since come to Christ.

In that specific region there are now over 2,000 people praying, fasting and building the church. They are seeing regular miracles, signs and wonders. Every week there are between 15-30 new believers coming to the Lord.

Prior to commencing my time with them, I had spent a few weeks slowly reading through the book of Genesis. What a powerful picture that first book of the bible gives for the establishment of what the Father was truly wanting. He established a family. After The Fall, humankind very quickly tried to create organisations, nations, and political power basis. Yet, God was establishing a family through which He would bring blessing to the world. That blessing was to be generational; passed from one generation to the next.

I was asked to share during one of the prayer times and I shared on the power of blessing. I'd been drawn to the Scripture in Genesis 28 where Isaac was passing the blessing he had received from his father Abraham to his son Jacob (who became Israel). The Scripture reads:

“May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.” Genesis 28:3-4 NIV

During my sharing a 95 year old lady pastor arrived who has faithfully served (and is still serving!) as a pastor in her region of the nation (actually in the area where the previous miracles are occurring). As she shared the goodness and faithfulness of the Father through her life we each sat mesmerized by this elderly grandmother, and the blessing and anointing she carried in her life.

I asked her if she would go around the room and pass on her blessing to each of the elders assembled. What an amazing time of impartation. It was like her mantle was passed on to another generation. It made me realise that one of our responsibilities is to pass on the blessings we have received to the next generation. Like Abraham passing a blessing to Isaac, who then passed it on to Jacob, blessing was to be generational, passed from one generation to the next.
