Have you ever read the parable of Jesus in Mark chapter four (this has been
called the Parable of the Sower)? Did you notice how many times Jesus used the
word “hear”? If we re-read it we will notice that He used it four times (Mk 4:15,16,18,20).
This was in relation to hearing the Word of God that He was attempting to sow
into the heart of a person. So, the ear spoken of here is, in fact, the heart. Yes,
it is heard by the natural ear, but is to go into
the heart or inner being of the person. It is to take root in their spirit,
something that Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel had been dealing with in the
life of Israel - although many in their day also did not hear the Word of God
they spoke (Deut 29:3-4; Is 6:9-10; 32:1-4; 48:8; Jer 5:21; 6:10; Ez 12:2).
So what relevance does this
parable have for us today? As Jesus spoke to those of His day regarding the
seed that was supernatural in its power and output, so His Words are just as relevant
for us today. That is, the Word of God that needed to be sown in the hearts of
people (Mk 4:3-9,14-20; see also Matt 13:4-9,18-23; Lk 8:5-8,11-15), also needs
to be sown in hearts today. In this parable, Jesus referred to various types of
ground (soil) into which this seed fell.
Right now is a great time for intentionally
resubmitting your heart to God, so that, as a Christ-follower, you may have
your heart re-assessed to see what type of soil it is. Are you an honest hearer,
allowing Him to do and say what He wants, and are you willing to obey His
direction for your life to become more fruitful?
Pause in His presence for a
moment and think this over…
