Have you ever found out about a
secret that someone you liked or cared about had hidden and then you have struggled
to see that person in the same light? Well, let’s look at this from a different
angle. What if that person found out something about you that you were hiding, how
would you want them to respond to you? Let us take this a bit further: what if numerous
people found out about this thing you have kept secret. How would you feel?
If we are honest, we all have
things (skeletons in the closet) that we
would not like others to know about us.
These may be things that we have done in
our past, thoughts that rattle around in our head, opinions or attitudes. At
times our mind can torment us regarding our secrets, while Satan can take great pleasure in troubling us over them. Remember,
the only person that has ever lived that would not have anything to hide is
Jesus Christ.
It is
possible that you are in this place of dread or torment right now and are
living in fear of one day someone finding out about your secret things. It can
be an awful place to live in day in day out. However, there is someone who
knows all of our secret things, our Heavenly Father. As David said,
“O God, You know how foolish I am; my
sins cannot be hidden from You” (Ps 69:5
NLT)
While Moses
said,
“You spread
out our sins before you-- our secret sins-- and You see them all” (Ps 90:8 NLT)
So the most
important person in our lives knows all our secret things, and He still loves as
and accepts us as His children. In fact, He took the first steps in bringing us
into His family and forgiving our secret
things by sending Jesus as our Saviour,
(Eph 1:7). But Ephesians 1:8 says,
“So we praise God for the glorious
grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son (Eph 1:6 NLT)
But we will need to confess and
repent of our secret sins to Him, as He is faithful and just to forgive all our
sins, even our secret things, and to cleanse us (1 Jn 1:9 NLT). Therefore, even
while doing this, remember that we are
completely accepted and belong to Him, even though He knows about our secret
things.
Pause in His presence for a
moment and think this over…
