In the previous blog, we began asking,
what is reality? We had a look at some definitions and saw that the Oxford
dictionary stated that it is,
“The state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or
notional idea of them.”[1]
In reading and think about this matter, I came across a helpful perspective that I
would like to share here. It was offered
by Richard Rohr, a minister from the US. He
said that,
“After
transformation, we don’t look out at reality as if it is hidden in the distance. We look out from reality! Our
life is participating in God’s Life. We are living in Christ. As Paul tells the
Colossians, ‘your life’s hidden with Christ in God’ (3:3). Paul is obsessed by this idea. It undergirds
everything he writes. Paul is the great announcer of what is happening
everywhere all the time much more than he is the architect of a new religion.”[2]
This
new religion so called was named ‘The Way, before it was Christianity. But the
more we read Paul’s writing that more we see this truth that, our life’s hidden
with Christ in God.
But the truth of the matter that I
would like to stress here is that if we are Christ-followers, then we live in the reality. As Rohr pointed out we look out
from reality. Namely, Christ is our
reality, and we are in Him. That is,
“For
you have died, and your life is hidden
with Christ in God” (Col 3:3 ESV).
The Message Bible 3:3 has put it this
way,
“Your
old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though
invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life.”
That is, our real life in Christ is
our reality. This is why we look out from
reality; we look out from being in Jesus Christ. As with Paul, I have been
consumed with this Kingdom truth for some
years, and especially over the past 12
months. That is, as Christ-followers, we are in Christ and Christ is in us.
Pause
in His presence for a moment and think this over…
