Perspective is a powerful thing. It is a
premise, which can shape and transform our lives. It is something we can choose
to shift and focus wherever it most pleases us.
Perspective can relate to our entire worldview;
how we see the bigger picture. It can also determine the way we respond to
specific circumstances that we face in everyday life. It is a powerful thing
when we afford God space and freedom to shift our perspective and allow Him to
realign and enlarge our vision.
We
become less concerned with ourselves and the ‘importance’ of our own agendas
and find ourselves more able to focus our attention on God. Perhaps, in turn,
this allows us to ‘love others as we love ourselves’ (because we sure know-how
to love ourselves). John the Baptist had things in proper perspective when he
stated,
“He must
increase, but I must decrease” Jn 3:30.
Encountering
God daily keeps our focus on things that matter. Instead of allowing the
demands and busyness of life distract and lower our gaze upon ourselves or the
concerns of this world, let us affix God at the very core of all we do and who
we are.
“Seek ye
first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be
added to you” (Matt 6:33).
When
we seek the perspective and vision of God and allow it to invade our own, we
see things in a much different manner. Despair turns to hope. Greed turns to
contentedness. Darkness to light. Weakness to strength perfected. Sorrow is
traded for joy. Sin erased by grace abundant. Death is transformed into a
salvation life. Perhaps perspective can be best summed up by the old refrain,
“Turn your eyes upon
Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.”
