A major emphasis of the
book of Acts is the Holy Spirit. Luke recorded the work of the Holy Spirit
within and through the early Church. The Spirit is prominent within the pages
of Acts as opposed to the Gospels. For example, the Holy Spirit is mentioned
some 40 times within Acts, while He is mentioned just over 20 times in the
Gospels.
Acts reveals that the Holy Spirit was the
fulfilment of the promises and prophecy in the Old Testament (Acts 2:14-35). He
was called the Spirit of prophecy (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:14-21,22-36; 11:28;
21:10-14; 1:16). He baptised believers (Acts 1:5; 11:15–16) and was given as a gift (Acts 2:38). He was
the overflowing presence, outpourings and fullness of the early church
equipping them for ministry (Acts 1:8; 2:1-4,33,38; 4:8,28-31; 6:3,5; 7:55;
8:15-17; 9:17,31; 10:44-45,47; 11:15,24; 13:9,52; 15:8; 19:2,6). He directed the mission (Acts 13:2;
16:7). He spoke to, gave instructions and sent the believers on this mission
(Acts 13:2,4; 16:6-10; 28:25).
Things have not changed; He is
still at work today. The book of Acts as a record of the early church is
complete, but the book of Acts of the Holy Spirit is continuing to be written
in our hearts and the life of the church. He is as active as ever. He empowers the
Christ followers - His Church - to do the work today. This includes you being
empowered and used by Him to do the will of your heavenly Father now, anywhere, and anytime that
He chooses. So, let me ask you “Are you willing and ready to do His will in His
power?
