Have you ever had one of those moments/days when you have lost
sight of what is essential at the time? That is, instead of being thankful for
what is happening in your life at the moment, you are overwhelmed. For example,
you are walking into a building, and someone graciously holds the door open for
you, but your mind is on something else, and you do not even thank them. You
just walk in through the doorway and continue on your way captured in your
overwhelming thoughts.
If we are not careful, we can miss the gifted opportunities
to give thanks. There are prospects all around us every day, but how many do we
lose? In light of the gift of life that we have been given, we should be the
most thankful people on earth. We have nothing to complain about, absolutely
nothing, but everything to be thankful for today. Why would we let life
overwhelm us and miss out on the many opportunities to give thanks for our gift
of life?
Paul commanded the
Christ-followers at Thessalonica to continually be thankful, not as a mere
suggestion, but as the will of God.
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for
you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thess 5:18 NLT).
This truth is also
relevant to us today. It’s not just a mere suggestion, but it is a command. That
is, we need to be living out from a position of thanks continually. We all have
this opportunity every day to gladly obey Him and give thanks.
Pause
in His presence for a moment and think this over…
